Samsung confirms Expert RAW app changes for Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold2

Samsung has decided to expand the feature set of the Expert RAW camera app, the compatibility of which it increased earlier this year. Unfortunately, the company has also announced a delay to Expert RAW's rollout for older flagship smartphones. Worse still, Samsung has reduced the level of support for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which is now only two generations old.

On the one hand, Expert RAW has gained the option of saving custom settings. Theoretically, this should make the Expert RAW easier to use, although it remains to be seen whether one can save more than a single preset. Arguably, this feature should have shipped with Expert RAW by default, too.

Separately, Expert RAW will soon be able to offer the choice between the formats in which it saves photos. Currently, Expert RAW will only save JPEG and RAW files, not ideal if you only need one file type. However, the latest update will add a 'Save Format' menu for creating only RAW or JPEG files. Alternatively, you can maintain Expert RAW's current behaviour.

On the other hand, Samsung is now working to bring Expert RAW to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold2 by September 2022, a slip of three months. Unfortunately, Expert RAW will be inaccessible for the Galaxy S20 Ultra's telephoto camera. Purportedly, the 48 MP sensor cannot output Bayer RAW, on which Expert RAW is based. Still, Expert RAW will be available on the device's primary and ultra-wide-angle sensors.
