iPhone SE 3 to be last remaining high-performance LCD phone as leak reveals more details of the compact device
The iPhone SE3 is expected to debut next year. A few reports have revealed details of the phone but the latest leak provides even more information on what will be Apple's cheapest smartphone of the year.
For one, according to the source, the iPhone SE 3 will feature an LCD. Over the past year, the smartphone industry has pivoted almost entirely to OLEDs, with consumers preferring the darker blacks and contrast levels. It took Apple a while to make the switch but the iPhone 13 lineup uses OLEDs exclusively. The iPhone SE 3, however, is said to stick with an LCD.
The source reckons that this would make the affordable, compact iPhone the only high-performance device with an LCD on the market. There's truth to that. As it stands, there's no device on the market with both a Snapdragon 888 or Snapdragon 888+ and an LCD.
Supposedly, the iPhone SE 3 will be built on the chassis of the iPhone XR, with the addition of an A15 Bionic. That mirrors the relationship between the iPhone SE 2 and the iPhone 8. The iPhone SE 3 is said to be available in variants of 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB. Pricing is expected to be unchanged from the iPhone SE 2.
