Apple introduces an official US$19 polishing cloth with a compatibility list that includes more devices than just the new 2021 MacBook Pro
Future owners of the new 2021 MacBook Pro may someday have to clean the Liquid Retina XDR display of their new laptop, and Apple would apparently suggest to use its all-new polishing cloth for that purpose. The polishing cloth is priced at US$19 and was quietly launched alongside the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro machines that were officially revealed at yesterday's Unleashed keynote livestream. The Apple polishing cloth can be ordered at the official Apple Online Store, but delivery times have already slipped to mid-November.
The Cupertino-based company unfortunately does not mention the size of the Apple polishing cloth on its official product page. It only says that the microfiber cloth is made from a "soft, nonabrasive material" which is supposed to clean all Apple displays safely and effectively. This includes the nano-texture glass of the Apple Pro Display XDR. With the Apple polishing cloth, customers do not have to fear that they could damage the delicate coatings on their expensive displays.
To be safe, Apple has included an extensive compatibility list on the product page of the polishing cloth. It includes all recent iPhone smartphones going back to the iPhone 6 generation from 2014. It is also compatible with all Apple Watches, as well as the displays of many Mac computers going back to the model year 2012. Of course, recent iPads like the 2021 11-inch iPad Pro (from US$749 on Amazon) may also be cleaned with the Apple polishing cloth. It is likely that the microfiber cloth can also effectively clean the screens of Android smartphones and maybe even those of Windows machines.
