Apple rumoured to unveil an iPhone SE Plus in 2022 with a larger model set for 2024
Ross Young, an analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) turned leaker, has delivered more information about future iPhone SE devices. Supposedly, Apple will reveal a new model next year, which it will market as the iPhone SE Plus. Its name may be somewhat of a misnomer though, according to Young.
Reputedly, the iPhone SE Plus will not feature a larger display than the current model. Instead, Apple will stick with the 4.7-inch display and the chassis first used in the iPhone 6. Apple bases the iPhone SE 2020 on the iPhone 8, for reference, and not the iPhone 6.
Accordingly, the iPhone SE Plus will have large bezels, a single rear-facing camera and a home button with Touch ID built-in. The iPhone SE Plus will receive an SoC upgrade though, which will bring more than just CPU and GPU improvements. Theoretically, the iPhone SE Plus should support 5G connectivity too, for example.
Unfortunately, a major upgrade will not arrive until 2024 in the form of the iPhone SE 3. Reputedly, this device will have a larger display than the iPhone SE Plus, measuring between 5.7- and 6.1-inches. The device will rely on an IPS panel rather than an OLED one, mind you, which implies that Apple will re-use the iPhone XR. The iPhone SE 3 is a long way off, but Young has a good track record so far regarding smartphone leaks.
