iPhone 18 Pro Max vs OnePlus 15 battery life test: Apple optimizations shine
Apple claims that the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max bring big battery life improvements over the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. In the case of the eSIM iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple promises up to 45 hours of video playback thanks to a bigger battery and the power-efficient A20 Pro SoC.
To see what kind of battery life the iPhone 18 Pro Max brings to the table, TechDroider has now put Apple’s latest flagship against the OnePlus 15. The OnePlus 15 is one of the longest-lasting flagship phones on the planet, as it managed a web-surfing runtime of 30 hours and 42 minutes in our review. So, comparing the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max to the OnePlus 15 seems quite apt.
TechDroider had both phones perform a variety of tasks, including playing a game, watching YouTube, and recording a video. So, the battery life results should be quite indicative of real-world use.
Looking at the results, the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max battery lasted for 11 hours and 40 minutes of active use. The OnePlus 15 managed a battery life of 13 hours and 33 minutes. So, the OnePlus 15 enjoyed a 16% better battery life than the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
That said, the result looks much better for the iPhone 18 Pro Max when we consider that the OnePlus 15 packs a much larger 7,300 mAh battery than the 5,395 mAh cell of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. A 35.4% larger battery only yielding a 16% better runtime perfectly illustrates what a major role optimization plays in the endurance of a phone. Apple’s optimizations for the iPhone 18 Pro Max appear to be doing a pretty stellar job here.
This doesn’t mean that Apple should stay conservative with the battery capacities. The iPhone Pro devices would benefit tremendously from much bigger batteries. We’d love to see the 2027 iPhone Pro models pack battery packs that are in the same league as the latest Chinese flagship phones. But only time will tell whether that actually happens.
