Deal | Fast-paced sci-fi shooter drops below $4 on Steam for the first time

In Metal Eden, players take on the role of Hyper Unit Aska. The highly advanced android is sent to the orbital metropolis of Moebius to rescue the residents' so-called Cores and save them from destruction. However, the story serves more as a backdrop, as the main focus is clearly on the gameplay.

And that's where Metal Eden really shines: The game combines fast, precise gunplay with plenty of freedom of movement, making it strongly reminiscent of Doom Eternal. Aska can run along walls, dash through the air, use a grappling hook to pull herself across arenas and cover greater distances with a jetpack. Combat is designed around staying constantly on the move and seamlessly combining shooting, wall-running and aerial maneuvers.

The overall structure remains largely linear. Fast-paced parkour and traversal sections alternate with larger combat arenas where players face several waves of enemies in succession. Health, armor and ammunition are strategically placed throughout these areas. At the same time, walls, multiple levels and grapple points provide plenty of opportunities to make use of Aska's movement abilities and take advantage of the arenas' verticality.

Game Informer reviewed Metal Eden when it launched in September 2025 and was particularly impressed by its precise gunplay, intuitive movement mechanics and varied arsenal of weapons. Criticism focused primarily on the frequently recurring arena battles, which can become repetitive over time. According to the review, story dialogue also regularly slows down the pace of the game. Ultimately, the publication awarded it 8 out of 10 points.

The Steam community's verdict is similar: 84% of more than 2,200 user reviews are positive. Metacritic lists a Metascore of 73 and a user score of 7.0.

On Steam, Metal Eden normally costs around $20. However, an 80% discount brings the price down to $3.99 until September 29. According to SteamDB, this marks a new all-time low – the previous maximum discount was 75%, most recently in August 2026. On the Steam Deck, Metal Eden is officially rated as “Unsupported”, although the game has a Platinum rating on ProtonDB. With a few adjustments, the shooter should therefore generally be playable on Valve's handheld.
