Intel Core i7-9700 vs AMD Ryzen 5 4600HS vs Intel Core i3-9100F
Intel Core i7-9700
► remove from comparison
The Intel Core i7-9700 is a high end desktop processor based on the Coffee Lake architecture. It integrates 8 cores (no Hyperthreading therefore also 8 threads) clocked at 3 - 4.7 GHz. Compared to the similar named Core i7-9700K, the 9700 has no open multiplicator for easy overclocking, offers lower clock speeds and offers a reduced TDP.
Compared to the old Core i7-8700, the 9700 offers two more real cores but no Hyperthreading. Therefore, the performance gain is not that big - depending on the app. The single core performance was slightly improved thanks to the higher Turbo clocks. As a high end desktop CPU, the i7-9700 is well suited for demanding tasks and gaming.
The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 graphics card is clocked at up to 1.2 GHz and offers no advantage compared to previous generations. As it is a very low end GPU, only some low demanding games like Hearthstone can be played with it (see GPU page for benchmarks).
Intel specifies the TDP at 65 Watt (instead of the 95W of the faster models) and therefore the CPU wont need a high end desktop cooling system.
AMD Ryzen 5 4600HS
► remove from comparison
The AMD Ryzen 5 4600HS is a mobile SoC for big laptops based on the Renoir architecture. The 4600HS integrates six of the eight cores based on the Zen 2 microarchitecture. They are clocked at 3 (guaranteed base clock) to 4 GHz (Turbo) and support SMT / Hyperthreading (12 threads). The chip is manufactured on the modern 7 nm TSMC process and partly thanks to it AMD advertises a 2x improved performance per Watt for the Renoir chips. Compared to the similar named Ryzen 5 4600H, the 4600HS is the power efficient version with a TDP of 35 Watt (10 Watt less).
Due to the two deactivated cores and the slower Turbo clock speed, the Ryzen 5 4600HS should be significantly slower than the Ryzen 7 4800HS. The old top model Ryzen 7 3750H is still clearly slower due to the four Zen+ cores. Compared to the competition, the Intel Core i7-8850H (6-core Coffee Lake 2.6 - 4.3 GHz) should offer a similar performance.
In addition to the six CPU cores, the APU also integrates a Radeon RX Vega 6 integrated graphics card with 6 CUs and up to 1500 MHz. The dual channel memory controller supports DDR4-3200 and energy efficient LPDDR4-4266 RAM. Furthermore, 8 MB level 3 cache can be found on the chip. See our hub page on the Renoir Processors for more information.
The TDP of the APU is specified at 35 Watt (default). Although the TDP is 10 Watt lower than the Ryzen 5 4600H, the chip is still intended for big and relatively heavy laptops.
Intel Core i3-9100F
► remove from comparison
The Intel Core i3-9100F is an entry level Quad-Core processor for desktop PCs based on the Coffee Lake architecture. It offers four cores clocked at 3.6 - 4.2 GHz without HyperThreading / SMT support (4 threads only). The CPU is still manufactured in 14nm++ and does not feature an integrated graphics card.
Compared to the older Core i3-8100, the i3-9100F offers around 10 to 15 percent higher performance. Therefore, the CPU is well suited for simple office tasks but less for high end gaming or demanding applications.
Intel specifies the CPU with a TDP of 65 Watt. For desktops that means that the processor wont need big cooling solutions and can be used in small cases.
