It is no secret that Qualcomm is preparing to release a successor of sorts to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the company's current flagship smartphone chipset. Reputedly, Qualcomm will present the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus as soon as May, and Xiaomi will be one of Qualcomm's top clients. According to Xiaomiui, Xiaomi hopes to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus in six smartphones that it will release throughout 2022.
As the screenshot below shows, Xiaomiui claims to have found references to the six smartphones in MIUI source code. All linked to the new 'PlatformX475', the smartphones are all referred to by their codenames. Supposedly, PlatformX475 is the codename for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, for reference.
Unsurprisingly, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is one of the devices that will contain the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, albeit under the codename 'thor'. Moreover, the source code mentions 'zizhan' (Mix Fold 2), 'diting' (Xiaomi 12S), 'unicorn' (Xiaomi 12S Pro) and 'mayfly', the codename for the Xiaomi 12T Pro and Redmi K50S Pro. Presumably, this means that the Xiaomi 12T Pro and Redmi K50S Pro are the same device but with different model names for marketing purposes.
Based on recent rumours, Qualcomm has built the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus on a TSMC 4 nm node, ditching the Samsung equivalent used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. CPU core arrangement will remain the same though, as will a 2.99 GHz peak clock speed on its Cortex-X2 prime core.
