Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus: Qualcomm announces a May 20 event where it could also debut the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1
After months of rumors, Qualcomm is finally set to bring its next flagship chipset to the market. The company has now officially announced an event that will almost definitely see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus make its debut.
On its Weibo page hours ago, the company announced that it will be hosting a Snapdragon-focused event on May 20 by 8 PM China time. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is expected to make its grand debut at that event, and will likely be joined by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
"Witness together: New products, new experiences, and new co-operation...The new mobile platform of Snapdragon will be unveiled soon."
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will succeed the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 by making the switch from Samsung's 4 nm node to TSMC's equivalent. The new chipset will be adopted by most premium phones scheduled for the second half of the year, including the OnePlus 10 Ultra, Xiaomi 12 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, and Galaxy Z Flip4.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is also likely to make its debut at that event, particularly as Qualcomm's post strongly hints at multiple new products. Details of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 have leaked in the past, and it's expected to be Qualcomm's mid-range chipset of choice.
