The launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 as the latest flagship-grade SoC for smartphones from Qualcomm has given rise to predictions that its less premium counterpart, the 7 Gen 2, should also make an appearance soon.
However, it has yet to make an appearance since its line's switch from the old Snapdragon 7xxx naming convention to the new 7 Gen n system was announced. Yet more surprisingly, the Gen 1 has yet to sprout a Plus variant, despite the existence of the corresponding 8+ Gen 1, and the numerous premium devices it has powered thereafter.
Now, however, it is possible that the 7 series is getting an update after all. Qualcomm China has thanked its Weibo audience for its patience just prior to setting March 17, 2023 as a date for a new "Snapdragon product release".
Accordingly, this event might finally confirm whether a 7+ Gen 1 and/or Gen 2 exist and, if so, how accurate the leaks concerning their specs have been.
