The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is expected to replace the Snapdragon 778G Plus as Qualcomm's most powerful chipset for the mid-range segment. Details of the SoC leaked recently, but new information seeks to curtail hopes of fans expecting a chipset in the mould of the MediaTek Dimensity 8100.
As revealed by leaker Yogesh Brar, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will offer performance beneath the Snapdragon 870 but above the MediaTek Dimensity 1200. That's disappointing since its closest rival, the Dimensity 8100, matches the Snapdragon 888 in raw performance and blows it away efficiency-wise. But then, the Dimensity 8100 looks to be a gem of a chipset and it'd be foolhardy to expect the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 to match it.
Over the past year, MediaTek has consistently beaten Qualcomm in each segment, with the Dimensity 9000 outperforming the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1; ditto the Dimensity 1200 and Snapdragon 778G. That said, seeing as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is expected to outperform the Dimensity 1200, we can expect a big bump in GPU performance over the Snapdragon 778G thanks to the new chipset's tipped Adreno 662. The difference in GPU performance across the two Qualcomm mid-range chips could be as high as 40%.
New Snapdragon 7 series chip performance numbers are promising. It sits below Snapdragon 870 but a little higher than the Dimensity 1200 in performance.

Can see atleast 3 phones using it this quarter. This might turn out to be the next in-demand chip for mid-range phones.
