Xiaomi celebrates shipping 100 million wearables with possible hint of upcoming Mi Band 5 launch
Xiaomi has enjoyed great success in the wearable market thanks to the Mi Band series. The original Xiaomi Mi Band was released in 2014, with the Mi Band 2 following in 2016 and the Mi Band 3 arriving in 2018. Although the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 was unveiled as recently as June 2019 that hasn’t stopped persistent rumors insisting that the Mi Band 5 will make an appearance in 2020.
Xiaomi has posted some information about the Mi Fan Festival on its official Weibo account that has been roughly translated by PlayfulDroid to reveal that the company has enjoyed 100 million wearable shipments between 2014 and 2019 and that fans can expect something new to be shown off on April 3. Followers on Weibo have been guessing at the possibility of a new Xiaomi smartwatch launch, however, there are also a lot of users who believe it could signify a Mi Band 5 unveiling.
There have been a few rumors about what the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 could bring with it, including a larger color display, NFC capability for the global variant, and a better screen for improved daylight legibility. There’s no confirmed report about the price of the Mi Band 5, but the Mi Band range has always been a very attractive option when it comes to affordability.
