Xiaomi has announced the Smart Multimode Gateway 2, a smart home hub which allows you to connect various devices. This is a second-generation model of the original Xiaomi Smart Multimode Gateway. The gadget supports three smart home protocols: Bluetooth, Bluetooth Mesh and Zigbee 3.0. Plus, you can connect to the hub via 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
By linking your smart home gadgets, you can set them to work simultaneously; for example, you could trigger lighting and an air purifier via a motion sensor which detects when you get home. Compatible gadgets include the Mijia Curtain Companion and the Xiaomi Mijia Robot Vacuum Cleaner Pro.
The Smart Multimode Gateway 2 has a 1 GHz dual-core processor and large memory with 128 MB RAM, double the memory of its predecessor. You can connect over 100 devices to the hub simultaneously, and the gadget has a USB-C power input port and an RJ45 network port for an Ethernet cable for a more stable and efficient connection.
The Xiaomi Smart Multimode Gateway 2 is now crowdfunding in China for the discounted price of 189 yuan (~US$28); the gadget is expected to retail for 229 yuan (~US$34) in the future. The device is currently only available in white with a casing made from anti-IV material to prevent yellowing and a non-slip silicone pad on the base.
