Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 officially launches in Europe

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 is now officially available directly from Xiaomi in Europe and the UK. The model can be ordered from Xiaomi UK for £169.99 or from Xiaomi Germany for 199,99€. Shipping is free in both cases and is expected to take 2-5 days. Additionally, buyers can return the product within 14 days for a full refund.

A glance at the product images reveals that the scope of delivery is rather limited, as a base station with more advanced features is completely absent. There is no self-cleaning function or automatic vacuuming. Instead, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 can only be charged at the base station. On the plus side, the charging station is relatively compact, but this also means users will likely have to empty the robot itself more frequently than if a larger or more advanced base station were used. The robot's dustbin has a capacity of 520 milliliters. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 is said to run for up to 180 minutes on a single charge.

Xiaomi advertises a suction power of 10,000 Pa, which promises powerful cleaning, even on carpets. A specially designed brush is used, which is supposed to effectively prevent hair from getting tangled—the side brush is also supposed to be hair-resistant. Buyers shouldn't expect miracles when it comes to wet cleaning, however, as it essentially just drags a damp mop behind, and there's no cleaning action with rotating mops.
