Xiaomi RedmiBook Air 13 launched: A laptop with a 2.5K display, a minimal design and up to 16 GB of RAM for ~US$750
The RedmiBook Air 13 is Xiaomi's latest compact laptop. Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi has been inspired by Apple again with its latest laptop, although it will only be available in silver with a black display bezel. The Chinese company is yet to adopt the increasingly-popular 16:10 aspect ratio, though. Instead, Xiaomi has relied on a 16:9 and 13.3-inch panel that resolves at 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. According to Xiaomi, the display covers 100% of the sRGB colour space and can reach 300 nits of peak brightness. The company also boasts that the display has an 89% screen-to-body ratio, although there is a noticeable chin on the bottom edge.
Beneath the simple exterior of the RedmiBook Air 13 lies a 41 Wh battery and 512 GB of storage. Xiaomi is offering the device with either 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM. We should point out that the company has included a SATA SSD and LPDDR3 RAM clocked at 2,133 MHz, which feels rather cheap in 2020.
The company also offers the choice of the Core i5-10210Y or the Core i7-10510Y. The latter is only available with 16 GB of RAM, while the former can be equipped with 8 GB or 16 GB. The RedmiBook Air 13 measures 297.5 x 212 x 12.99 mm and weighs 1.05 kg. However, Xiaomi has only included two USB Type-C ports and a 35 mm headphone jack.
The RedmiBook Air 13 starts at CNY 4,899 (~US$705) in China for the 8 GB and Core i5 model. If you want 16 GB of RAM, then Xiaomi will charge CNY 5,199 (~US$750), while the Core i7 edition retails on Mi.com for CNY 5,899 (~US$850). Xiaomi is unlikely to sell the RedmiBook Air 13 outside of China through official channels. Still, we would expect third-party retailers like Gearbest to offer the device soon.
