Reviews for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G
Xiaomi's new entry-level phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G, can already be had for as low as $250. For this price, you get a lot of smartphone, including a 120-Hz AMOLED display and other almost premium-worthy features. In this review, you'll also find out where Xiaomi has cut corners.

The Redmi Note 14 5G remains a solid phone with a dependable design, a decent OLED screen, and good battery life. But I’d suggest that the sheer churn of cheap options needs to stop, and the brand should focus on making one or two genuinely compelling cheap phones. It would doubtless help the brand to provide greater clarity and consistency on which of its many models are being made available in which territories, too. Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand isn’t quite the easy budget recommendation it once was. With the Redmi Note 14 5G, the hardware improvements are incremental, the software experience continues to frustrate, and the competition is only getting stronger. Motorola is now offering genuinely interesting differentiation and bonus features between its sub-£300/€300 smartphones, while the CMF Phone 1 manages to offer considerable excitement and style for a lot less money.

This year's Redmi Note 14 5G doesn't live up to the hype. Sure, it's definitely an upgrade over last year's model, but the upgrades hardly make any difference in the current market conditions. The vanilla Redmi Note 14 seems to be behind the curve mostly in the performance and camera departments, and we expected more from the battery as well. Still, Xiaomi was able to put together a decent all-rounder that would probably become more competitive as the price settles. The handset still has a decent main camera, excellent display and a competitive fast-charging solution.

As it does every year, Xiaomi managed to come up with rather appealing products at their respective price ranges. These are not the best phones on the market, nor are they meant to be. They’re meant to deliver the best bang for your buck, and that’s exactly what they’re doing. You’ll hardly find more affordable phones that work as well as these do. As long as you accept that you won’t get a flagship-grade performance here, you’ll be just fine. These are budget phones, some more than others, but still. So, as long as you’re fine with the tradeoffs, go for it.

So, let’s get to the conclusion. If your budget is tight and you need a phone with good battery life, a decent display, and acceptable performance, the Redmi Note 14 4G at NPR 25,000 is a great option. However, if you can stretch your budget a little, the Redmi Note 14 5G at NPR 31,000 offers better value with improved display brightness, IP rating, cameras, charging speed, and 5G support. Either way, both phones are providing the usual Good Redmi Note value without any doubt.

You may think that spaffing out cash on the Pro+ phone might bag you the absolute best tech, although it's only the regular Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 5G that offers a headphone jack and expandable storage. The Redmi Note Pro 5G does upgrade the display tech to a slightly brighter 1.5k panel with Dolby Vision support, while the camera is boosted to a 200MP shooter. However, gaming is still limited unless you go Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G. Battery life is excellent on all three smartphones although again it's the Pro+ that really impresses with 120W fast charge. You've also got more AI features here, but the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus' camera does struggle to focus at times, which will hopefully be sorted in an update.

The Redmi Note 14 starts at Rs 18,999 for the base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The 8GB RAM variant is available in two storage options: 128GB priced at Rs 19,999 and 256GB at Rs 21,999. The base model is a good choice for budget-conscious users, provided the pre-installed apps aren’t a dealbreaker. Gaming enthusiasts might find better alternatives, such as the iQOO Z9s. However, battery-focusers users will be pleased as the Redmi Note 14 excels in areas like battery life and charging speeds. Moreover, its vibrant AMOLED display, durable design, and reliable 50MP primary camera with OIS make it a compelling choice for everyday use. The addition of basic AI tools with extended security update support adds to its value.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 performs very well in this price range. Since it has a 120Hz AMOLED display, decent 50MP triple rear cameras, and a 5,110mAh with fast charging, it meets most of the requirements for a good mid-range device. However, the Dimensity 7025 processor, which is acceptable, might seem weak in some areas compared to other devices of similar tier, but for its intended use, it gets the job done. The device has affordable pricing and is loaded with many features. So, if you are looking for a mobile phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 makes sense, and even more so after its launch in the Indian market, where it is likely to be more optimised. You may also pick and compare some other phones like Realme Nazo 70 Turbo, CMF Phone 1, Samsung Galaxy M35 5G, and Motorola Moto G45 5G. Thanks for reading the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 review.

Model:
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 14 5G arrives as a familiar yet subtly upgraded successor to the Note 13 5G, bringing incremental improvements in design, performance, and battery life. Physically, the Redmi Note 14 5G is slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor, measuring 162.4 x 75.7 x 8mm and weighing 190g. This extra heft allows room for a larger 5110mAh battery, while a slightly rounded rear panel improves grip. It retains a plastic frame with Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and introduces a more protective IP64 rating, up from IP54. A notable improvement is the switch from a side-mounted to an in-display fingerprint sensor, lending the phone a more premium feel. Budget-friendly extras like the 3.5mm headphone jack and IR blaster return, adding useful functionality not found in many rivals. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display remains largely the same, featuring a Full HD+ resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Although it lacks LTPO tech, Xiaomi boosts peak HDR brightness to 2100 nits and HBM to 1200 nits, improving visibility in bright conditions. At standard brightness, it peaks at 447 nits which is slightly lower than the previous model, but acceptable. The Redmi Note 14 5G runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7025 Ultra chip, a mild bump over the Dimensity 6080 in the Note 13 5G. Benchmark results show modest gains: around 9% better CPU performance and 16% better GPU results, though it still trails behind similarly priced phones like the Moto G75 and Samsung Galaxy A35. Despite this, the phone benefits from generous memory and storage options, starting at 6GB/128GB and scaling up to 12GB/512GB, with expandable storage via microSD. This flexibility helps the Note 14 5G punch above its price point in multitasking and media storage.
Camera upgrades follow the theme of subtle refinement. The 108MP main sensor remains but now includes optical image stabilization (OIS), greatly improving low-light photography. Daylight shots are solid, though colour balance can be inconsistent. A new 20MP selfie camera offers decent results but struggles with HDR and depth in portraits. Secondary cameras include a basic 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro which is underwhelm and feel like filler. There is no telephoto lens, but 2x and 3x digital zoom using the main sensor is passable. Video recording is limited to 1080p at 30fps, but benefits from the added OIS. Battery life is one of the Redmi Note 14 5G’s strongest assets. Its 5110mAh battery delivers excellent endurance—lasting 13 hours 9 minutes in PCMark tests, over 3 hours more than the previous model. Real-world usage comfortably spans a full day with power to spare. Charging is also improved, with 45W fast charging (up from 33W), reaching 62% in 30 minutes and a full charge in under an hour. While the Redmi Note 14 5G does not revolutionize the formula, its combination of refined design, capable performance, improved battery life, and generous specs make it a standout in its price category. It is a modest evolution, but one that keeps Xiaomi’s budget lineup competitive.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
