Reviews for the Motorola Moto G56
The Motorola Moto G56 demonstrates how much smartphone you can get for under $275. In our review, the robust mid-range phone not only impresses with its attractive and grippy faux leather casing, but also with smooth operation, a good camera, eSIM support, and long battery life. However, we also uncovered a few weak points.

With a little bit more grunt, a little more battery life, and a lot more sturdiness than its predecessor, the Moto G56 5G is a reasonable upgrade but still feels like it sits in an awkward position amid the Moto lineup. The price difference between the 4/128 and 8/256 GB variants might not seem like much, but $100 is a lot in this price range. If you can live with its shortcomings, which is arguable, the $299 Motorola Moto G56 5G probably stacks up better in terms of value for money. Once you step up to the $399 model, you’re getting closer to mid-range territory, where your options extend to the likes of the impressive $449 Nothing CMF Phone 2 Pro.

There’s plenty to love about the Motorola Moto G56 for its very reasonable £199.99 price. Its design might have a plastic frame but the material on the rear is lovely and it comes with features many flagship phones don’t, from an IP69 rating to microSD and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is limited software upgrade support, no wireless charging and the performance isn’t the nippiest but you get a nice big display, decent enough camera results in good lighting from the main sensor and a brilliant battery performance. It’s not the only phone with a sub-£200 price point, with the likes of the CMF Phone 2 Pro and its funky design sitting within this bracket too, but the Moto G56 offers great value for money and a good experience overall. You can see how it stacks up against its rivals in our round-up of the best budget phones.

You will struggle to find a budget smartphone with an IP69 rating and a battery capacity of over 5000mAh, not to mention that you can expand the memory up to 2 TB. The Moto G56 is a simple but solid phone with a decent main camera that performs well in a variety of shooting scenarios. It even offers RAW capture. Even if the ultra-wide angle camera lags behind, you will be hard pressed to find specs like these at £199.
