Deal | WWII with the undead: Zombie shooter drops to $2.49 from $48 for the first time on Steam

Zombie Army 4: Dead War takes players to an alternate version of 1940s Europe. In this rather absurd version of history, Hitler weaponized zombies and used them to overrun large parts of Europe. The resistance has actually already put an end to the dictator – unfortunately, the undead are still very much undead. As a member of the Survivor Brigade, players therefore shoot their way through Italian cities, corpse-filled canals and even a zombie zoo, all in an effort to uncover what is behind the latest zombie outbreak. The co-op shooter from British studio Rebellion is 95% off on Steam until August 24, bringing the price down to $2.44 from just under $48. According to SteamDB, the deal marks a new all-time low, with the previous maximum discount being 90%.
In terms of gameplay, Zombie Army 4 has plenty of Sniper Elite DNA. That's hardly surprising, considering both franchises come from the same studio. Accordingly, sniper rifles and precision shots play an important role. The X-ray kill cams familiar from Sniper Elite are also present, showing particularly well-placed shots in the usual gruesome slow-motion detail. When the undead get too close for comfort, submachine guns and melee attacks come into play instead. Weapons can be upgraded at workbenches and equipped with effects such as fire or electricity. In addition to the campaign, there is a Horde mode in which players face increasingly large waves of zombies. And no one has to fight through the undead hordes alone: Up to four players can team up online.

German gaming magazine GamePro praised the dark atmosphere, detailed levels and entertaining run-and-gun gameplay in its review. The different zombie types, rewarding progression system and co-op mode were also well received. The shallow story and often generic mission objectives were less convincing, however. Other criticisms included the relatively small arsenal of weapons, weak hit feedback and some technically unimpressive effects. Overall, the publication awarded the game 79 out of 100 points.
On Steam, Zombie Army 4 has an 86% positive rating based on more than 11,000 user reviews. Metacritic lists a Metascore of 72 and a User Score of 6.4. On the Steam Deck, the zombie shooter is rated as “Playable.”
