Starting in 272 BC, you can lead a campaign during the Roman Republic's expansion across Europe. You can fight for the glory of Rome or choose a rival faction to establish your own dominance. Lead tactical battles with vast armies and command every unit, whether on land or at sea, to defeat your opponents.

But victory will also be won on the economic and political fronts. Indeed, you’ll need to forge alliances, establish trade routes, and guard against betrayals or conspiracies. This version of the game features an improved political system, rebalanced combat, and reworked visuals. You'll also have access to the Imperator Augustus DLC, which is set after Caesar's fall and lets you decide the future of Rome.

Praised by 84% of players on Steam, from over 93,900 reviews, Total War: Rome II - Emperor Edition is rated "Very Positive". On Metacritic, it has a Metascore of 76 despite a user score of 4.5. Indeed, its launch was rocky, as players complained about numerous bugs, optimization issues, and poor performance. 

But since the Emperor Edition update, the game has been improved with popular features and varied gameplay. Nevertheless, several players still complain that the DLCs are too expensive. In addition, according to SteamDB, its lowest price was $5.99 on November 27, 2024, with a 90% discount.
