Inspired by medieval Germany, Battle Brothers is a tactical RPG developed by Overhype Studios, now on sale for $8.99 on Steam. The story follows a band of mercenaries that you lead through a procedurally generated world on a quest for glory and fortune.

Your mercenaries come from all walks of life and can be peasants, bandits, or retired soldiers. Each character can be trained based on their strengths and weaknesses. As your adventure progresses, you’ll sometimes need to recruit members of the nobility to expand your army.

To defeat your opponents in turn-based battles that emphasize tactics, you’ll need to evaluate your soldiers’ skills and build a balanced army. You can also use the environment to your advantage. However, your warriors can become exhausted, and if they suffer serious injuries, they may develop trauma, which will reduce their abilities. To avoid this, make sure you have other mercenaries in reserve.

The world of Battle Brothers features many bustling cities, wandering creatures, and points of interest. You can complete contracts to earn money and upgrade your gear, hunt for treasure, or trade. 

Since its release on March 24, 2017, Battle Brothers has earned a solid Metascore of 80 and a user score of 7.8. Reviews on Steam are also very positive, with 88% positive reviews out of 28,602. Many players praise its visuals and combat. However, the game has some roguelike elements, as you’ll need to learn how to lose to win. In addition, its difficulty is often criticized, particularly because of an underdeveloped tutorial.
