Vivo has launched a phone called the S1 for the Indian market. Unlike the existing device of the same name for the Chinese region, it is a new product powered by the MediaTek Helio P65 SoC, runs Android 9.0 and has triple rear cameras.

Not long ago, mysterious new Vivo phones with new model numbers (V1913A/T and V1921A) popped up as listings with Chinese telecomms regulators. Today, its identity as a product may have been revealed. The S1 is an upcoming release for the Indian market. Its appearance match those of both new phones closely, in that it has a 6.38-inch screen and no rear-facing fingerprint scanner.

This display, as it transpires, is now reported as being an AMOLED panel of FHD+ resolution. It also integrates a fingerprint scanner, which is termed Screen Touch ID in Vivo handsets. The S1 will also allegedly run Android 9.0, and have a 32MP camera in a waterdrop-style notch. This phone also has triple 16MP+8MP+2MP, the second of which will be a wide-angle lens, as in many other smartphones.

Therefore, the Vivo S1 may hold out reasonable hopes of pulling in prospective buyers with these specs. However, it has one more ace up its sleeve: the Helio P65 SoC, a fresh release from MediaTek not seen in a mobile device prior to this. It is a 12nm CPU with a maximum clock of 2.0GHz and a novel DynamIQ core conformation.

Vivo has yet to release pricing or launch information for the S1 at present. However, it is projected that it will fall into the general INR20,000 (about US$292) band on its release.
