The Vivo NEX 3 is shaping up to be one of the more dramatic smartphone designs for 2019. NEX product manager Li Xiang has earlier this week released an image of its new ‘waterfall’ display and has now followed it up with some design sketches of the device along with its design inspirations. Water plays a key theme in the design as does, surprisingly, a chronograph watch in its new circular rear camera array.
The new waterfall inspired display on the NEX 3 looks very similar to the new edgeless Oppo phone also due for release later this year. While many agree the new design is stunning, many have also questioned just how practical it will be in everyday use. Although it is likely both OEM’s will develop a case for their respective designs, accidental touches and the likelihood of glass breakage looks to be something neither design will be able to avoid.
In terms of the rest of its specifications, the Vivo NEX 3 will continue with a 3.5mm headphone jack, UFS 3.0 storage and LPDDR4X RAM. Keeping things ticking over will be a Snapdragon 855+ and an extra large capacity battery to help preserve all-day battery life despite also offering support for 5G connectivity. Expect the Vivo NEX 3 to be revealed in full at IFA Berlin next month.
