Vivo claims to have started work on its 6G tech already

Vivo introduced the Nex 3 today (September 16, 2019) as its first device with a POLED Waterfall FullView Display. The OEM claims that this new development gives the new phone a screen-to-body ratio of a whopping 99.6%. Furthermore, the 5G version of this device lacks physical buttons, and instead replicates their functions with a system called Touch Sense, based on an X-axis haptic vibration motor.

However, Vivo also unveiled some aspects of its immediate future at this launch event. This included the advances it has made in planning for the 6G era. Even though the same has only just begun, the company reasons that it will not be long before demand for its successor begins.

To this end, the OEM outlined its efforts to prepare for this. They include academic collaborations in the area of research into the relevant technology; its own R&D into the same and a presence at seminars on industrial standards such as B5G/6G that have been conducted to date.

This may result in the next generations of in-house 5G adaptations and equipment found in the Nex 3 today. An example of this is the Vivo-made 5G-6 antenna, which integrates with the Snapdragon X55 modem found in the device. The OEM asserts that these innovations have put it at the forefront of the mobile-data industry in China; clearly, it intends to stay there in the future.
