The ViewSonic VG1457 resembles a 14-inch laptop in size when closed and also weighs about the same as some notebooks at roughly 1.36 kg (3.00 lb). Opening the device reveals two 14-inch screens that can transform a laptop into a triple-monitor workstation.
Both screens share a 16:10 aspect ratio. ViewSonic has chosen to use two 60 Hz IPS panels, each with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. Although the VG1457 likely can’t match the image quality of a dual-OLED solution such as the Asus ZenScreen Duo (approx. $550 on Amazon), it is considerably more affordable. The portable display features a kickstand that lets you position the screens at your preferred angle, either stacked or side-by-side.
An integrated sensor automatically detects whether the unit is in portrait or landscape orientation and rotates the screens accordingly. The ViewSonic VG1457 is fitted with two USB-C ports – one for linking to a laptop and the other for connecting a USB-C charger. When plugged into external power, it can deliver up to 65 watts of passthrough charging to a laptop via its second USB port. However, because it lacks an internal battery, it has to draw power from the laptop if no external power source is available.
