Shure announced the brand-new MV88 USB-C stereo microphone at CES Unveiled 2026. As its name suggests, this model updates the classic MV88 with a USB-C connector, enabling it to plug directly into modern iOS and Android devices without requiring adapters. Available now at a list price of $159 / £145 / €169, it is aimed primarily at journalists and content creators who want to record high-quality audio on the go without having to carry a bunch of equipment.
The company focuses on delivering a streamlined user experience by eliminating batteries and complex pairing processes. Drawing power directly from the host device via USB-C, the microphone remains compact and portable, integrating seamlessly into mobile workflows. Software support is a key aspect of its functionality: Shure’s MOTIV Video and MOTIV Audio mobile apps, along with MOTIV Mix on the desktop, allow users to access advanced controls for audio customisation, including a five-band equaliser, limiter, compressor, and high-pass filter.
The MV88 USB-C offers four selectable polar patterns to suit a wide range of scenarios. Users can choose between stereo (width adjustable from 60 to 135 degrees), mono cardioid for focused capture, mono bi-directional for interviews, and raw mid-side. Shure has included an auto-level mode that provides real-time gain adjustment to account for volume fluctuations, ensuring consistent audio quality in dynamic environments. An intelligent real-time denoiser also helps reduce unwanted background noise. The microphone will ship with a foam windscreen and a protective case.
