Upcoming Philips Hue update rumored to bring improved home security features
Philips Hue is about to upgrade its Secure devices again, according to a recent rumor. The Secure range, launched last year, includes various smart home security cameras, such as the Secure Desktop Wired Smart Home Security Camera (curr. $170.19. at Amazon).
A report from Hueblog.com suggests that a software update at the end of November will bring two improvements to Philips Hue Secure devices. The first is an enhanced integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, enabling you to use voice commands to pull up the camera’s livestream on devices like the Google Nest Hub, Echo Show or Fire TV. Secondly, users will be able to use routines to activate or deactivate their cameras to fit in with their day-to-day activities. For example, you could set the cameras only to be active when you are at the office or asleep.
These improvements were announced at IFA 2024 alongside a new Battery Saver mode, extending the runtime of non-wired cameras; this feature launched in September. The most recent iOS app update, version 5.29.0, also focused on home security. The Philips Hue Secure device software update is expected to roll out across Europe and North America, though the exact release date remains unclear.
