Garmin Tread 2: New rugged navigator for extreme weather supports off-road navigation and music control
Garmin is best known for its numerous smartwatches, but the manufacturer's extensive range also includes navigation systems. The company now has a new navigation system on offer, the Tread 2, which is aimed at motorcyclists who are looking for a robust system with a wide range of functions.
The Garmin Tread 2 is equipped with a 6-inch color screen with a resolution of 1,280 x 720, which should allow for easy reading in sunlight. The battery life at maximum brightness is specified as up to 5 hours, with a maximum of 7 hours at reduced brightness. The device is certified in accordance with MIL-STD-810, IPX7 and IP6X, which means it should be impervious to dust and water.
Maps can be stored on the 64 GB internal memory and a microSD card reader is also available. Trail navigation with turn-by-turn directions is supported, and snowmobile trails in Sweden, Finland and Norway are even integrated. 3D terrain maps and road maps are on board, and Outdoor Maps+ with premium map content can also be used, but this requires a paid subscription. Routing can be done depending on the size and weight of your vehicle.
Not only is there a GNSS module with GPS and Galileo sensors, but a barometric altimeter, a compass and displays for longitudinal and lateral inclination are also integrated. GPX files can be imported. Music playback can be controlled from a paired smartphone and compatibility with dog tracking devices is also supported.
The Garmin Tread 2 is now available at a price of $699.99.
