The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Songs of the Past details revealed

CD Projekt Red and co-developer Fool's Theory have unveiled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Songs of the Past, a paid third story expansion arriving in 2027. Landing 11 years after Blood and Wine, it sends Geralt to Letten, a new open-world region, with a hooked silver chain and new monsters in tow. It comes to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, plus Blizzard's Battle.net.

Letten and Dandelion's family

Letten is inspired by rural England and Poland. Unlike the war-torn regions of earlier games, it offers rolling hills, lakes, and villages, with upgraded NPC behavior meant to make settlements feel lived in. The story centers on Dandelion's noble family. The bard is revealed to be Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhove, and the preview visits the estate where he grew up. Geralt arrives following a death in the family, and Dandelion goes missing. Geralt partners up with Dandelion's cousin, Lilla, to investigate further.

The search leads to the Garden of Thorns, a cursed area where twisted trees and hostile plant life replace the welcoming countryside. It is tied to local folklore about a witch known as the Naghag. CD Projekt Red says the garden's gate can be talked, sensed, or forced open, with consequences for each approach.

The hooked silver chain

Geralt gains a silver chain wrapped around his forearm. It works as a ranged tool, letting him hook distant enemies and pull them into melee range for faster follow-up attacks. CD Projekt Red highlights its crowd control potential. The expansion also adds new mutagens, though the studio has not detailed the progression system.

New monsters

Two new enemy types have been shown. Thornblooms are vicious flowers that cannot move but flail wildly at anything nearby. Swarmions are humanoid enemies protected by shields of living hornets, and previews suggest the chain is the answer to those shields.

Release details

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Songs of the Past is scheduled for 2027, with no exact date or pricing announced. CD Projekt Red has compared its scale to Blood and Wine, with new main quests and side content across Letten. It follows The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, launching September 29, whose improvements carry over into the expansion. The Witcher 4 is targeted for 2028.
