The OnePlus Watch 3 was launched in February and was supposed to be available to buy later that month. However, due to a typo on the underside of the watch, OnePlus decided to postpone its release. Now, the smartwatch is available to buy, but with a much higher price tag than it was originally announced.
According to OnePlus's official website, the OnePlus Watch 3 costs $499.99 instead of its launch price of $329.99, which translates to a $170 increase. OnePlus hasn't released a statement about the increase in price, but when asked about it by The Verge, a spokesperson is reported to have said We don’t have any additional comment to share at this time.
There are speculations that the increase in the price of the OnePlus Watch 3 is due to the tariffs imposed by US President, Donald Trump. This appears to be valid considering the price has remained unchanged in other regions such as in Europe where it costs €299 (launch price of €349) and in the UK where it is available to buy at a discounted price of £269 (launch price £319).
Not only do the UK and Europe get it for less than the launch price, they also get free gifts along with their purchase of the OnePlus Watch 3. Buyers from both regions can choose from a handful of gifts such as the Nord Buds 3 Pro, a OnePlus Watch Charging Base, or a OnePlus Watch strap. There are no such offers in the US.
At $499.99, the OnePlus Watch is going to be tough to sell despite its many features such as its brighter display, 5-day battery life, and new health tracking features. Thankfully, the OnePlus Watch 2 is still a pretty decent option and can hold its own against many of its rivals. It is also currently available to buy on Amazon for $209.99.
