Garmin recently announced the Vivoactive 6 smartwatch, but if you don't care for the latest model, then the previous generation is still worth picking up. Now available for $100 less on Amazon, the Vivoactive 5 is a capable smartwatch with long battery life for tracking health and fitness.

Garmin recently announced the Vivoactive 6 as the successor to the Vivoactive 5 released back in 2023. The new smartwatch, which starts at $299, brings a number of upgrades including a redesign. However, in terms of specifications, there are only a few differences when compared to its predecessor. If you don't care for these changes, the Vivoactive 5 should still suffice, and now that is has received a huge discount on Amazon, it makes it still worth buying.

While the Vivoactive 5 is available in four colors, only the black variant is available for $199 on Amazon, with the Ivory priced at $219.99, Orchid at $219.95, and Navy at $243.99. The Vivoactive 5 has a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display housed in a 42mm case, making it a great option for those who want a smartwatch with a small footprint. Garmin's smartwatch also has Gorilla Glass 3 protection, an aluminum bezel, and a 5ATM water resistance rating.

The Vivoactive 5 is a health and fitness watch through and through with features such as Body Battery Energy monitoring which informs users which activities drain and charge their body. It also has a sleep coach; stress tracking, women's health tracking, meditation, mindful breathing, and hydration tracking. It can measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation.

The sports app has support for 30 activities including outdoor ones that require GPS tracking and even has audio prompts for running and walking activities. Another interesting feature of the Vivoactive 5 is its wheelchair mode which allows for tracking daily pushes and provides weight shift alerts for wheelchair users. Owners can use the Garmin Coach to train and also create their personal workout. There's also a fitness age that shows how fit a user in comparison to their actual age.

The Vivoactive 5 isn't a perfect smartwatch. It is available in a single size, doesn't have a barometer, and it dropped the stainless steel case of its predecessor for aluminum. It also doesn't have animated workouts which its predecessor had. Thankfully, the feature has returned on the Vivoactive 6. However, it is still packed with features and has an amazing battery life — up to 11 days. And at a discounted price of $199, it is easy to recommend.
