Smartphone OEMs tend not to hold product launches on weekends; however, OPPO has been compelled to buck this trend with the latest additions to the premium mid-range K series. The company has now confirmed that the new K9 successor is the world's first Dimensity 8000-MAX device.
Consumers who might have hoped to try this new MediaTek processor variant and who are fans of OLED may be disappointed, as the K10's 6.59-inch display is IPS. Then again, it also has a "6-step" 120Hz refresh rate, 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and a 240Hz touch-sampling rate.
The K10 also features LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage, as well as 67W charging - which is odd, as the latter is a figure more often associated with Xiaomi phones.
The K10 has 64+8+2MP rear cameras, whereas its Pro counterpart has one of OPPO's favorite main shooters, the Sony IMX766. It also has an 6.62-inch AMOLED display, albeit an E4 version from the flagships of yesteryear. Nevertheless, it benefits from a 120Hz refresh rate, a touch-sampling rate clocked at 1,000Hz, 1,100 nits of brightness at the most and SGS eye-health certifications.
It is also driven by the 2021 top-end Snapdragon 888 SoC, paired with 2022 top-end 80W SuperVOOC charging. Therefore, it may take just over 30 minutes to fill its 5,000mAh battery completely.
The K10 has 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB RAM/internal storage options, priced at 1,999, 2,199 and 2499 yuan (or ~US$307, $338 and $384) respectively. The K10 Pro has the same configuration options, although they start at 2499 yuan in that case. OPPO already has the new K-series flagships up for pre-order, and intends to start general sales on April 28, 2022.
