Stable MIUI 12 update may not arrive on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 until September
The Mi Mix 3 has had a long run for a smartphone. Launched in October 2018, Xiaomi is yet to replace the device and even still lists the 5G model on some of its eCommerce platforms. The Mi Mix 3 5G has a different SoC from the regular model though, and is 0.9 mm thicker on account of also having a larger battery.
So, the Mi Mix 3 remains a current flagship for Xiaomi, strictly speaking. However, a moderator on Mi Community forums has warned that it "could take a month or two" before MIUI 12 will reach the device. The Mi Mix 3 is scheduled to receive Xiaomi's latest OS in Round 2 of its release schedule, although the company is yet to communicate when this will commence.
However, the same moderator has dangled the prospect of MIUI 12 landing on the Mi Mix 3 sooner than that courtesy of the Mi Pilot program. Xiaomi has already finalised the initial devices that will receive MIUI 12 through this program, along with the pilot testers that will be eligible to download the Beta Stable updates. The company has stated that other devices may be added to the program, but it is yet to confirm which ones or when these would be added.
Overall, it would appear that the Mi Mix 3will remain on MIUI 11 for a while yet. By contrast, Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi Mix 3 5G will be without MIUI 12 until October at the earliest. The initial MIUI 12 upgrade will come without Android 10 too, which is even more galling for Mi Mix 3 5G owners.
