Stable MIUI 12 updates lands on the Xiaomi Redmi K30i 5G
The Redmi K30i 5G is one of Xiaomi's odder smartphone releases of 2020. Not content with releasing just the Redmi K30 4G, Redmi K30 5G and Redmi K30 Pro, Xiaomi also elected to release a fourth edition. Except, the Redmi K30i 5G is almost identical to the Redmi K30 5G save for three changes. The Redmi K30i 5G shares its SoC, display, dimensions, storage, RAM and front-facing cameras with the Redmi K30 5G. However, it has a 300 mAh larger battery, along with lesser macro and primary rear-facing cameras.
The Redmi K30i 5G has now received MIUI 12 too, an upgrade that the Redmi K30 5G received last month. Strictly speaking the two devices should be capable of running on the same firmware considering the wealth of their similarities, but Xiaomi has opted to develop different builds for them instead. The first MIUI 12 update for the Redmi K30i 5G is rolling out now via an over-the-air (OTA) download and is called V12.0.3.0.QGICMXM.
If you are yet to receive the update for your handset, then you can download it manually from Xiaomi's servers. Please note that V12.0.3.0.QGICMXM is a 2.9 GB download. If you do opt to install the update manually, then you must transfer the .zip file to the internal storage of your phone under a folder called "downloaded_rom". Following that, you must select "Choose Update Package" from within the three-dot menu in System Update. If this option is not listed on your device, then you can enable it by tapping the MIUI logo ten times. Alternatively, you can install updates manually via recovery. This requires the same steps as above, but you should reboot into recovery mode by pressing the power and the volume up buttons simultaneously instead of selecting "Choose Update Package". Once in recovery, select "Install update.zip" using the power button and allow the update to install.
