Sony relaunching popular WH-1000XM4 over-ear wireless headphones with new version

Sony has just refreshed the WH-1000XM6 for a third time in just over a year. For context, the company introduced its sixth-generation model in May 2025. Despite launching 1000X The ColleXion in May (curr. $648 on Amazon), Sony has also updated the WH-1000XM6 with Sand Pink, Sandstone, and Olive Grey refreshes.
According to Roland Quandt, the WH-1000XM6 is not the only pair of over-ear wireless headphones that Sony will be refreshing in 2026. Instead, the leaker reports that the company plans to return to one of its older WH-1000X generations. Surprisingly, the generation in question is not the WH-1000XM5.
Looks like Sony is doing some kind of lite/neo/eco/whatever version of the WH-1000XM4.

Instead, Quandt asserts that Sony will soon update the WH-1000XM4. Rather than a visual refresh, Quandt believes that these will be an Eco, Lite or Neo-branded version of the WH-1000XM4. Writing on Bluesky, the leaker adds that Sony will distinguish this new model from existing WH-1000XM4 SKUs with 'C' suffixes.
Although other details remain unknown for now, the name alone implies that the updated WH-1000XM4 will cost less than the $349 Sony currently charges for the standard WH-1000XM4. Quandt has not indicated when the company will announce this updated pair of WH-1000XM4 headphones, either.
same model numbers, but with a C added at the end.
