Sonos has launched the Era 100 and Era 300, which it bills as delivering a 'new era of sound' courtesy of various hardware and software improvements compared to earlier models. While that remains to be seen, the Era 100 succeeds the Sonos One, with the Era 300 standing out as a new product segment for Sonos.
As Sonos' marketing images show, the Era 100 has a redesigned chassis compared to the Sonos One. Additionally, Sonos equips it with a large mid-range driver and two angled tweeters for stereo sound and bass reproduction. According to Sonos, the speaker supports AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity; there is no direct 3.5 mm input, but there is a USB Type-C port that supports line-in via an adapter.
The same goes for the Era 300, although this has six drivers that support Dolby Atmos. Meanwhile, both speakers support touch controls, as well as Sonos Voice Control or Amazon Alexa. The Era 100 and Era 300 are already orderable in multiple countries, but they will not start shipping until the end of the month. For reference, the Era 100 retails for US$249, whereas Sonos has priced the Era 300 at US$449.
