Sony WF-C700N leaks as new budget earbuds with ANC support
According to reports by The Walkman Blog, Sony is set to replace the WF-C500, a pair of affordable earbuds that debuted in 2021. The new model, known as the WF-C700N, was seen months ago by its model number, YY2968. However, new certifications suggest that Sony is finally close to releasing the earbuds.
As its name suggests, the WF-C700N should offer Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a feature that Sony omitted from the WF-C500. Additionally, the Bluetooth SIG confirms that the earbuds will support Bluetooth 5.2, up from Bluetooth 5.0 with the WF-C500. It is unclear which Bluetooth codecs will be available though; Sony limited the WF-C500 to only AAC and SBC codecs rather than its higher resolution LDAC alternative.
Incidentally, a leaked schematic implies that the WF-C700N will closely resemble its predecessor, which will continue with its black, green, violet and white colourways. Moreover, the earbuds may only match the 10-hour runtimes of the WF-C500 rather than making any improvements in this regard. Pricing and availability are unknown at this stage, but the FCC's documentation puts its release date sometime this spring.
