Smartwings is now selling a new Thread Smart Motor for its smart shades and blinds. The smart blinds were previously offered via an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, launched late last year, with orders shipping in February and March 2023. Innovative features of the blinds include setting a time for them to open or close, syncing them with sunrise and sunset, and setting a specific opening position.
The Smartwings Thread-enabled smart shades work directly with Apple HomeKit; you do not need a border router like a bridge. If you use the brand's Smart Link hub, the blinds become compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, SmartThings and other smart home systems. Plus, the gadget allows you to control up to 30 blinds simultaneously. Smartwings already offers a HomeKit motor; however, this relies on Bluetooth, making it slower than the new Thread device. Plus, the company expects the latest gadget to be compatible with Matter in the future, allowing it to work with Alexa and Google Assistant directly.
Smartwings blinds with Thread motors are available in a wide range of shades and with customizable fabric, color and size. The products start from US$154.99, with the Thread Smart Motor upgrade costing an additional US$99.99; this increases the minimum price to US$214.98. The company is offering the first 100 customers to purchase a smart shade or blind with the Thread Smart Motor a free Smart Link accessory.
