Sennheiser's Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds launch with a new design and user-replaceable batteries for $299.95

Sennheiser has announced the Momentum True Wireless 5 as its newest pair of earbuds, and as expected of premium earbuds, they do pack premium features. However, the highlight of Sennheiser's new earbuds are the user-replaceable batteries inside the earbuds and the charging case.

The Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds have been redesigned, as they have ditched the squarish look of their predecessors for a rounder shape. This new design is reported to fit better and Sennheiser claims that 73% prefer the fit compared to the previous generation.

The charging case has also swapped the jewelry box-like shape for a slimmer and taller case similar to that of the AirPods. Sennheiser says the redesigned case should slide easily in and out of your pocket. Despite the redesigned case, it still supports both wired and wireless charging.

Each earbud has four microphones, including a bone-conduction microphone, and features a 7mm dynamic driver just like the Momentum True Wireless 4 (available on Amazon for $179.99). They are reported to have a wider soundstage, and have an 8-band EQ that was co-developed with the Fraunhofer Institute.

The Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds also feature adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) which automatically adjusts the noise cancellation based on the environment. For clearer calls, the new earbuds use a voice accelerometer that picks up vibrations from the user's body. It is combined with AI-powered voice isolation and the earbuds' eight microphones to isolate the speaker's voice. The earbuds boast automatic wind-noise suppression, too. 

The new pair of earbuds are rated IP54 for dust and water resistance. In addition, they have Bluetooth 6.0, Bluetooth Multipoint, AptX Lossless, Hi-Res audio (24-bit/96kHz), and Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio. There is also a companion app which can be used to set up Sound Personalization, adjust the 8-band equalizer, switch between sound modes, and turn on features such as bass boost.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds have a battery life of up to 12 hours on a single charge and a total of 40 hours with the case. The best part is that the batteries in both the earbuds and the case are user-replaceable and can be easily replaced just with a screwdriver.

Priced at $299.95 in the US, £249.99 in the UK, and €299.90 in Europe, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds are available to pre-order in Copper, Cream, Denim, Graphite, and Lavender. They will begin shipping on September 3.
