Samsung strengthens the Galaxy Buds Pros' ability to switch between ANC and Ambient mode
Samsung launched the Galaxy Buds Pro as a TWS companion to the flagship S21 line of phones. It was promoted as a new generation in which the user would only hear what they would want to. Then again, some awareness beyond that is still (even in this day and age) necessary, which is why the OEM included an Ambient Sound mode in their UX.
This is the approximate equivalent of Transparency Mode in Apple's competing AirPods. However, it now seems Samsung feels this setting needed some refinement post-launch, as the Buds Pros' latest firmware update seems to focus on it.
This update (also known as firmware version R190XXU0AUA5 for the Galaxy Buds Pro) purports to improve the devices' ANC functions, as well as the latency with which it "tones down" in response to the user's voice. This, in turn, apparently improves its ability to activate Ambient Sound.
Currently, this new update is only available in the United States market, although it should start becoming available in more markets soon. It is most likely to pop up in the Galaxy Wearable app as it roll-out continues.
