Alongside the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung also revealed a fourth model called the Galaxy S25 Edge which will arrive later. Originally rumored to be called the Galaxy S25 Slim, and believed to be positioned between the Plus and Ultra models, new info suggests the latter might not be the case as it might actually not be as powerful as the other S25 phones.
According to a post made on X by Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh), the lower-powered variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor which has one fewer core is aimed at foldables and Slim phone
. While the news about the chipset being used in foldables had been reported earlier, the Slim phone
is inferred to mean the Galaxy S25 Edge.
While it might seem like a stretch to assume it will be used in the Galaxy S25 Edge, the fact that there hasn't been any other confirmed non-foldable Android flagship with a slim
design lends credence to it. Also, as at the time the post was made, the device was still referred to as the Galaxy S25 Slim.
In addition, considering the Galaxy S25 Edge is rumored to be due for release this summer, it could explain the reason as to why it didn't launch alongside the other Galaxy S25 models. Samsung's foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are also due for a summer release.
Nevertheless, it probably makes sense for Samsung to use this variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite considering it has been reported to have lower heat generation than the more powerful variant, albeit at the expense of slightly reduced performance.
With the reduced performance, fewer cameras, and most likely smaller battery capacity, the Galaxy S25 Edge can't be placed in between the Galaxy S25 Plus and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Where it sits between the series is still unknown until its full spec sheet and pricing is revealed.
