Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro to retain 'ugly' design of the Galaxy Watch4
The Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro are not expected to arrive until the end of August, with the pair believed to be on course for an August 26 launch at a Galaxy Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4. While the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro have now emerged on the FCC, @UniverseIce has vented their frustration at Samsung's design decisions for the Galaxy Watch5 series.
Writing on Twitter, the leaker believes that the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro 'may be the ugliest' smartwatches produced by smartphone OEMs. While slightly hyperbolic, @UniverseIce insists that the gap between the designs of Apple and Samsung's smartwatches is growing, although full details about the Watch Series 8 have not leaked yet.
Additionally, @UniverseIce has underlined that the Galaxy Watch5 Pro will rely on the large touch-capacitive bezel from the Galaxy Watch4 and the Galaxy Watch Active2. With Samsung rumoured to have ditched the physical rotating bezel that has become a staple of its smartwatches over the years, there may be no direct replacement for the Galaxy Watch4 Classic.
Instead, @UniverseIce asserts that the Galaxy Watch5 Pro will launch as wide bezels as the Galaxy Watch4, which limits Samsung to including a 1.4-inch display in a 44.4 mm-wide housing. By contrast, Apple has fit a 1.9-inch panel within the 45 mm chassis of the largest Watch Series 7 model. Seemingly, @UniverseIce now thinks so low of the Galaxy Watch5 series that they are already writing them off, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4.
