Google rolls out new YouTube Music features to Wear OS smartwatches as next-generation Google Assistant lands on Samsung Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic

Google has finally introduced updated Google Assistant and YouTube Music apps for Wear OS. Rumoured for months, the pair were to be core parts of Wear OS 3 when Google debuted it at last year's I/O Conference. Instead, a next-generation version of Google Assistant has been found wanting since the Galaxy Watch4 series' introduction, while Wear OS smartwatches a rough version of YouTube Music, Google's replacement for Play Music.
As for the latter, Google has now added a streaming option over Wi-Fi or LTE, provided that your smartwatch supports the latter. Seemingly, you still need a pair of headphones connected to listen to content though; YouTube Music will not output via a smartwatch's built-in speaker. Additionally, Google has released a new YouTube Music tile that provides quick access to your recently played playlist or to the app's 'browse' section.

Separately, the next-generation version of Google Assistant has arrived for the Galaxy Watch4 series. Seemingly exclusive to Samsung's latest smartwatches for the time being, Samsung bills the new version of Google Assistant as a way to access 'more natural voice interactions, quick answers to questions and on-the-go help'. It remains to be seen whether this Google Assistant build will be available on Wear OS 2 smartwatches, but Samsung has confirmed availability in 10 countries, at least initially:
- Australia
- Canada
- France
- Germany
- Ireland
- Japan
- South Korea
