Samsung Galaxy Watch4: Distribution of May 2022 update begins for the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic ↺
Samsung has issued R8xxXXU1FVD4 to the Galaxy Watch4 series, building on R8xxXXU1FVC8. Typically, Samsung updates its smartwatches bi-monthly, although it actually released two updates in February. For some reason, R8xxXXU1FVD4 arrives less than a month after R8xxXXU1FVC8 but contains Google latest' Android security patch. In comparison, Samsung bundled the March 2022 set of security patches with R8xxXXU1FVC8, despite releasing the build after Google had announced its April 2022 security patch update.
While Samsung does not outline what changes the May 2022 security patch update makes on the Galaxy Watch4 series, Google outlines all changes in its latest Android Security Bulletin. Please note, not all security fixes apply to Android 11, on which One UI Watch and Wear OS 3 is based. Also, Samsung remarks that R8xxXXU1FVD4 applies 'stabilisation codes for watch operation', albeit without explaining what effect this has on the Galaxy Watch4 or Galaxy Watch4 Classic.
Regardless, R8xxXXU1FVD4 is available to download now through the Galaxy Wearable app. Based on Adimorah Blog's screenshot, R8xxXXU1FVD4 is approximately a 100 MB download, despite featuring no major changes. Based on a recent Samsung Spain advert, Google Assistant support may be on the horizon though, a long-promised feature for the Galaxy Watch4 series. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen if One UI Watch will receive Fitbit integrations, or whether this will be exclusive to the upcoming Pixel Watch.
