New certifications have confirmed that Samsung will release versions of the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro with mobile connectivity. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Watch5 series will miss out on 5G connectivity, while also providing the same battery capacity for Bluetooth and LTE models.

Samsung has certified even more upcoming smartwatches with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US. As we discussed earlier this week, Samsung registered the SM-R900, SM-R910 and SM-R920, all listed as 'smart wearables'. For reference, the SM-R900 and SM-R910 are anticipated to be 40 mm and 44 mm versions of the Galaxy Watch5, respectively.

In comparison, the SM-R920 is the Galaxy Watch5 Pro, known internally as 'Project X'. Subsequently, Samsung has certified the SM-R905, SM-R915 and the SM-R925, again all listed as 'smart wearable' devices. While the FCC has not revealed too many details about these unreleased models, it confirms that they feature LTE modems.

Hence, it seems likely that they are LTE versions of the SM-R900, SM-R910 and SM-R920, mirroring model number designations for past Galaxy Watch generations. Additionally, the listings confirm that Samsung plans to offer LTE connectivity across all Galaxy Watch5 models, not just the Galaxy Watch5 Pro or the larger Galaxy Watch5.

Moreover, the FCC's listings outline that Samsung will not sell any Galaxy Watch5 model with 5G connectivity, despite its inclusion across its Galaxy smartphone range. Incidentally, LTE versions of the Galaxy Watch5 series will have the same battery capacities as their Bluetooth/Wi-Fi counterparts. In other words, expect LTE editions of the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro to deliver worse battery life than their more affordable siblings. Currently, Samsung is rumoured to reveal the Galaxy Watch5 series in late August alongside the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 at a Galaxy Unpacked event.
