As reported, Sony has launched a new 200 MP sensor, the LYT-901, today. This new sensor is expected to feature on a slew of premium devices in the near future but it now appears Samsung will be opting out.
According to popular leaker Ice Universe, Samsung currently has no plans of adopting the new sensor on its next-gen flagship phones. Reports from months ago indicated the Galaxy S27 Ultra could arrive in 2027 with said sensor as its main camera. Theoretically, Sony's new LYTIA 901 sensor with its 1/1.12-inch size would offer a notable upgrade over the 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL HP2 Samsung has equipped its recent premium models with. Instead, it now seems the Galaxy S27 Ultra is set to sport an iterative 1/1.3-inch sensor like its predecessors.
While a 1/1.3-inch sensor can hardly be considered small or inadequate, this rumored decision looks to affirm public opinion on Samsung's choices with its hardware, with the company's Galaxy S-series flagships widely considered to have stagnated in terms of camera hardware.
