Even though it is many months away from launch, the rumour mill is already abuzz with speculation about the Galaxy S26 Ultra. For starters, one said it would bring back a variable aperture camera, a feature not see in ages. As is the case with most Ultra phones, the focus is on its camera subsystem, and this time, the flagship will supposedly get more than just a minor spec bump.
Weibo leaker and smartphone camera expert E8M_8888 says Samsung plans to introduce two new 50 MP telephoto lenses this year, one with 0.56 micron pixels and the other with 0.64 microns. These will supposedly replace the 10 MP and 200 MP telephoto sensors from the Galaxy S25 Ultra to give us the following camera layout, according to Ice Universe over at Meeco:
- Wide-angle: 200 MP
- Telephoto 1: 50 MP, 3.5x zoom (periscope)
- Telephoto 2: 50 MP, 8x zoom (periscope)
- Ultra-wide-angle: 50 MP
If accurate, the Galaxy S26 Ultra would offer one of the greatest generation-over-generation camera improvements ever seen in a Galaxy S smartphone. The Oppo Find X8 Pro launched last year with two periscope telephoto lenses, and it'll be interesting to see how the Galaxy 26 Ultra hold up against Chinese-origin camera behemoths.
As always, the above information is a rumour and should be treated as such. While the sources involved have been reliable in the past, the Galaxy S26 Ultra still might get last-minute spec changes to adopt with market conditions.
