Samsung has refreshed its flagship smartphone series. From today, the company is accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, which start at €949/US$799.99 and €1,119 in the Eurozone, respectively. Both models feature the same chipset and cameras, but the Galaxy S23 Plus should have the edge when it comes to battery life.

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, the cheaper models in the Galaxy S23 series. While the Galaxy S23 Ultra moves the Galaxy S series onto a 200 MP camera, its cheaper siblings offer minor changes from last year's Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, including tweaked designs. As expected, Samsung is only selling this year's Galaxy S series with Snapdragon chipsets; the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy replaces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200.

In short, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus are identical devices, save for different battery capacities, peak charging wattages, display sizes and footprints. Specifically, the Galaxy S23 has a 3,900 mAh battery, 200 mAh larger than its predecessor but 800 mAh smaller than the 4,700 mAh cell in the Galaxy S23 Plus. Also, the Galaxy S23 has a 6.1-inch AMOLED display that runs at 1080p, 120 Hz, 425 PPI and up to 1,750 nits. By contrast, Samsung offers the Galaxy S23 Plus with a 6.6-inch AMOLED panel that matches the Galaxy S23 in all key areas apart from pixel density, which drops to 393 PPI.

Moreover, the Galaxy S23 measures 146.3 x 70.9 x 7.6 mm, making it as thick as the Galaxy S23 Plus but slightly shorter and narrower, with the latter coming in at 157.8 x 76.2 mm. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S23 Plus is the heavier of the two devices, although both weigh as much as their predecessors. Separately, the smallest Galaxy S can still only charge at up to 25 W; the Galaxy S23 Plus maintains its predecessor's 45 W wired charging capabilities too. The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus also share the following features:

  • Colours: Cream, Green, Lavender, Phantom Black
  • Rear-facing cameras:
  • Primary: 50 MP (OIS, f/1.8, 30x Space Zoom)
  • Ultra-wide: 12 MP (f/2.2)
  • Telephoto: 10 MP (OIS, f/2.4, 3x optical)
  • Front-facing camera: 12 MP (2PD AF, f/2.2)
  • Materials: Gorilla Glass Victus 2 & Armor Aluminium

The Galaxy S23 starts at €949 or US$799.99 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. However, Samsung will also offer the handset with 256 GB of storage for €1,099. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 Plus will start at €1,199 and US$999.99 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage but will rise to €1,319 for its 512 GB variant. Samsung will not sell either model with anything more than 8 GB of RAM; the Galaxy S23 series will peak at 256 GB of storage too.
