The China Times (via 9to5Mac) has reported on potential new tablets that Apple may launch in 2019. According to the article, the Cupertino company is gearing up to start mass production on the two new devices before the end of this year. The latest additions to Apple’s hardware line-up are expected to be the iPad Mini 5 and a 10-inch version of the iPad.
At the moment, there are sparse pickings for consumers who want to get their hands on a brand-new iPad Mini. Apple’s official store offers the fourth-generation 128 GB model in limited configurations: Potential customers can choose between three different colors and two connectivity options – but that’s it. Adding a new device to the line-up should help spark interest in the slate, although little is known about the fifth-generation tablet apart from the fact it’s believed it will be lower in price than the US$399 iPad Mini 4 (Wi-Fi only version).
Speculation about the 10-inch iPad suggests that it will come with a slimmer frame than previous iterations and will be an entry-level product, which means it could be simply a replacement for the basic 9.7-inch iPad. The iPad (2018) was released in March for US$329, and it is expected the rumored 10-inch variant will have a similar price point.
The iPad Mini 5 could be available as early as the first couple of months of 2019, with the 10-inch iPad possibly launching by the latter half of the year.
