Redmi Watch 5 goes global as affordable smartwatch with large and bright display
The Redmi Watch 5 launched in China in November last year, and Xiaomi has finally brought it to the international market. It comes with the largest display in the company's smartwatch portfolio and has the slimmest bezel yet. To be specific, the wearable sports a 2.07-inch AMOLED screen, which is a noticeable upgrade from the 1.97-inch display that the predecessor features.
This display can get reasonably bright too. While the predecessor was rated for up to 600 nits of brightness, the Redmi Watch 5 has a peak brightness rating of up to 1,500 nits. Xiaomi says that this high brightness rating allows the smartwatch to offer improved visibility even under direct sunlight. The 82% screen-to-body ratio of the smartwatch further enhances the viewing experience.
Of course, the large and bright display isn't the only highlight of the Redmi Watch 5. As Xiaomi touts, the wearable is designed to deliver a flagship-grade smartwatch experience. It comes with an improved linear motor that can provide precise yet quiet haptic feedback, and the dual-mic setup with noise reduction ensures clear calls.
Xiaomi has also put proper emphasis on health and fitness tracking. The Redmi Watch 5 sports a new self-designed heart rate algorithm. This algorithm is said to offer 5.2 % more accuracy when compared to the predecessor, and the company says that the smartwatch can deliver over 10 % better accuracy in monitoring sleep quality.
As for the fitness aspect, the smartwatch has over 150 sports modes, including professional options like running and cycling. There's also a 5-system GNSS, which Xiaomi says can offer precise outdoor activity tracking (Fitibt Inspire curr. $79.95 on Amazon). Other highlights of the Watch 5 include a 5 ATM water resistance rating, local music playback, up to 24-day battery life, and a sleek design. The smartwatch will be available to purchase starting from January 15, with the rated price tag in the UK being £89.99 (around $110).
