It’s been a busy period for Xiaomi and Redmi lately, with new smartphones, laptops, and televisions hitting the news headlines. Among all the launches was the Redmi AirDots 3 earbuds, which look very similar to the predecessor headset but have been updated in regard to function and features. The price tag has also been considerably upgraded, with the Redmi AirDots 2 having a budget launch price of 79 yuan (US$12; rose to 99 yuan after crowdfunding (US$15)) and the AirDots 3 now costing 199 yuan (US$31).
One of the most obvious differences between the two generations of AirDots is the upgrade to Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, which should allow for improvements in regard to signal delivery and latency. A Qualcomm QCC3040 processor has been selected to power the TWS earbuds, so better power efficiency and enhanced audio playback support should be expected. Xiaomi claims up to 7 hours of audio playback is possible with the Redmi AirDots 3 on a single charge, and in conjunction with the charging case that figure goes up to 30 hours.
Fast charging of the 600-mAh battery is available via USB-C, and Environment Noise Reduction technology is also onboard for improved call clarity in noisy surroundings. For those tired of only being able to choose between black and white cases for their TWS earbuds there is an additional bright pink option on offer with the Redmi AirDots 3. Xiaomi will start officially selling the new earbuds from March 4.
